Nima Behnoud was born in Tehran in 1976. From early childhood, he showed a keen interest in art and began learning painting and illustration from such famous Persian artists as Farideh Lashayee and Ahmadreza Dalvand. At the age of 16, he began working as a junior illustrator for the monthly magazine, “ Adineh ” the most famous and controversial paper of the time.
After Adineh was closed permanently by the Iranian hardliners, he continued his work at the monthly magazine “ Payam-e-Emrooz ” as a designer and later joined the IMS Advertising Group . In 1995 he left Iran for San Francisco to study art and design. Soon after his arrival in the bay area, he began working with several design firms, and in the summer of 1997 he landed an opportunity to work at “ Colortone ” design firm, the design house that produced the world famous apple computer campaign, “think different.” By this time, he had developed an interest in advertising design, and in 1999 was hired as an art director at “ Jamison Cawdrey Advertising. ” While working at JCA, he experienced the fashion industry firsthand by designing and art directing large format posters, photo shoots, and campaigns for a series of shopping malls and fashion brands. He soon found that California did not quench his thirst for fashion, entertainment, and design, and in the winter of 1999 moved to New York City, where he now calls home. He has worked for fashion and cosmetics companies and agencies such as Publicise, Estee Lauder, and L’Oréal Paris . He is currently working on his first documentary about the effects of war on children, and attends design classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
